The DirecTV Classic was an 8 team college basketball tournament held during Thanksgiving week at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. The tournament began in 2007, and was owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television. Games were televised on ESPN2 and ESPNU. Until 2012, it was known as the “76 Classic”; ConocoPhillips’s 76 chain owned the naming rights to the tournament. DIRECTV sponsored the 2012 tournament. In 2014, the event merged with the John R. Wooden Classic to form a new event, the Wooden Legacy.
The 2014 DIRECTV Classic will be held over Thanksgiving weekend, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 27, 28 & 30, in Anaheim, Calif.
The field for the seventh annual tournament includes Arizona State, College of Charleston, Creighton, George Washington, Marquette, Miami (FL) and San Diego State. The eighth team will be announced at a later date.
The 2014 DIRECTV Classic will feature a bracket format with 12 games over three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through the bracket. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a championship game on the final day of competition.
The Big West Conference will again serve as the host conference for the DIRECTV Classic.
Previous tournament champions include USC, Wake Forest, West Virginia, UNLV and Saint Louis.
The family friendly tournament takes hosts the teams for three days of tournament play, practices and events.
