Invented by Shop.org, “Cyber Monday” is a marketing term used for the Monday after Black Friday. Used to persuade people to shop online, the term “Cyber Monday” was first used within the e-commerce community during the 2005 holiday season.
The term made its debut on November 28, 2005 in a Shop.org press release which entitled “Cyber Monday” Quickly Becoming One of the Biggest Online Shopping Days of the Year”.
Many online retailers offer deals and deep discounts to customers on this day, which is increasingly becoming one of busiest online shopping days in the US.
Cyber Monday is not a public holiday. Generally a large percentage of the shopping on this day is done during work hours. Keeping this in mind, several retailers offer additional lunchtime discounts to their customers, so that they can purchase what ever they want using high-speed Internet connections at work.
Apart from United States, several other countries, including Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Germany, Chile, Colombia, Japan and India also now have their own version of Cyber Monday.
